What Are You Reflecting?

A friend shared an interesting story. She lives on a farm and had discovered a scrappy looking little stray kitten living under a rat infested porch. She believed that the rats had been helping raise her or that was what her physicality reflected. She actually walked crouched down like a rat and when climbing would turn face down to crawl back down, which a normal cat will never do.

At any rate, she eventually started walking fully upright and has grown into being a beautiful and affectionate cat.

Just like the cat was reflecting what she saw in her environment, we are all mirrors for each other. Looking at the people in your life can tell you a lot about yourself. When you see beauty, light and divinity in the soul of another, you are seeing the goodness that resides in your soul. When you see traits that you do not like in others, it's more difficult to acknowledge that these could also be linked to unresolved issues of our own, and can be humbling. No need to disown, try to change these feelings, or make them wrong. Sometimes simply accepting them as part of our humanness will take away from their power.

Remember that "like attracts like" is one of the spiritual laws of the universe. So instead, gently shift your awareness toward nurturing compassion and empathy, allowing the goodness you see in others be your mirror.

Reflect the Light,
Beth Ann

April is Foot Health Awareness Month!
by Amy Kreydin, guest columnist

April is Foot Health Awareness Month! Are you ready to toss the wool socks and furry boots into storage? New England winter can be especially cruel to our feet - months of icicle toes restrain nail growth and the dry cold induces cracked heels. So as you get ready to shed some of the layers of your wardrobe consider these tips for happy feet going into warmer weather!

Pamper Your Tootsies! The American Podiatric Association encourages a little pampering for your feet, especially at the start of a new season. You can create your own happy feet ritual at home:

  • Take a large pan or bowl and fill with warm (not hot) water and a sprinkle of Epsoms or sea salts.
  • Thoroughly dry both feet – paying attention to the spaces between the toes too.
  • Take a large file or a pumice stone and gently slough off any layers of thickened skin, especially the heels and sides of the feet.
  • Apply your favorite moisturizing lotion, cream or oil to the feet – massage away areas of tension.
  • Throw on a pair of thick socks to lock in the moisture and put those feet up for a spell.

Ease into Outdoor Activities Take it easy the first few times you get back into your neighborhood walking routine or hike in the White Mountains. Weekend warriors are liable to injure themselves quickly so approach those outdoor actions cautiously.

Don't Ignore Foot Pain Women are much more likely to experience foot pain over their male counterparts, and research suggests it can be from a history of poor footwear. Visit your podiatrist when foot pain arises to come up with a wellness plan.

Nip pain in the bud by wearing comfortable, supportive shoes and taking care of your feet daily. With only one pair of feet allotted to each person we've got to make sure they'll carry us for years to come!
