Honoring the Process

Have you ever noticed that when someone is dealing with a difficult, life changing blow, others want to 'hurry' them through the grieving, sadness, and loss, and get them right back to 'normal' as soon as possible? There can be pressure, (though lovingly intended), to move on or find closure.

Some people think that by urging a loved one along toward happy days, they are actually doing that person a favor. Perhaps it is because of their own discomfort with these feelings.

We all need to move through the stages of grief or loss at our own pace, a pace that feels right and works for us.

During these challenging times, people are experiencing losses in ways that they ordinarily might not. If someone you care about is trying to cope with a loss - be it a job, money, relationship, or a death - try to resist the urge to make them feel better before they are ready.

Be there for them, honoring their process as you would like to be treated in kind. Listen and offer advice only when asked, and allow them to move through their stages at their own pace. It will be the best support you can offer in this crazy 'get over it' kind of world.

Peace to you,
Beth Ann

Destress, Strengthen Your Body, Expand Your Mind

You've committed to your daily walks, but could use some incentive. You're also trying to make time to read more. But by the end of the day you're pooped and just don't have the time. Sound familiar? Have you considered audiobooks? Check out your local library to save money.

Audiobooks and walking go hand in hand. Who knows, you may become so engrossed in the story that you'll end up walking for miles and won't even notice!

Caribbean Sweet Potato Salad

Here's a sassy little twist on an old summertime favorite.

4 large Sweet Potatoes, cut in small squares
1 Tbs. Dijon Mustard
2 Tbs. Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 cup or more to taste, chopped Cilantro or Parsley
1 clove Garlic , minced
3 Tbs. Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
1/4 cup Red Onion, finely chopped
2 stalks Celery, finely chopped
1/4 cup finely chopped Peanuts (optional)

  1. Steam potatoes in large pot with steamer insert till done. When done drain through colander and rinse with cold water.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together mustard, lime juice, cilantro or parsley, and garlic. Slowly whisk in oil. Mix in salt and pepper.
  3. Add cooled potatoes to dressing along with red onion. Toss well. Serve at room temperature or chilled. Toss the peanuts in just before serving if desired.
