I know you all
probably get sick of me saying "food is your most powerful medicine,
yada yada." But I thought you might find it interesting to know that
pomegranates, by far, are one of the oldest natural remedies known to
man. |
 |
The Power of Pomegranate
Before there was medicine, there was food, and pomegranates top
the list of ancient healing remedies. A native plant of Northern
Africa, pomegranate was written about in 1552 B.C. in the oldest and
most important medical document recovered in Egypt. The document
contains more than 700 remedies for treating disease, and
pomegranate is one of the most popular ingredients in the formulas.
Physicians in Greece prescribed pomegranate juice as a treatment
for arthritis, circulation disorders, viruses and digestive
problems. Fast forward to the present day, and this exotic fruit has
captured the attention of the scientific community due to the high
content of potent anti-oxidants.
On a hot day, why not try a refreshing spritzer with pomegranate
juice, sparking water and lime? Sure seems like a simple and
delicious way to support good health.
Enjoy,

Q. What's the point of wearing sun protection as an adult, if
80 percent of damage occurs before age 18?
A. I hear this lament all the time! Sun damage is a
two-hit process. True, a lot of the damage happens during childhood,
but it is sun exposure as an adult that brings the damage to the
surface in the form of sunspots, loss of elasticity, discoloration,
wrinkles and cancer. Limiting your sun exposure (and wearing a full
spectrum of sunscreen and hat) in adulthood will help hide, and even
reverse, the sun sins of your youth.
Q. How bad is sugar for my skin?
A. The jury is still out, but recent findings suggest that
eating excess sugar can trigger a process called "glycation," which
may trigger skin aging by decreasing its supply of elastin and
collagen. I highly recommend my clients dealing with acne to be
aware of sugar intake, as it revs up all body's natural functions,
including oil production.
Here's a nice Greek influenced salad for the warm weather, feel
free to use any other small pasta. This tastes even better the next
day!
1 cup macaroni
1 19 oz. can chickpeas
4 tomatoes, chopped
1 small spanish onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
6 oz. feta cheese, crumbled
1 cup pitted black olives
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
3 tbs. chopped parsley
1. Cook pasta until al dente and rinse under cool water to chill.
2. Meanwhile, blend all other ingredients except parsley in bowl to
marinate while pasta is cooking.
3. Mix macaroni with chickpea mixture, cover and refrigerate for at
least 30 minutes.
4. Add parsley before serving. |
