De-Stress with Music

The healing effects of music have been noted for millenniums.

Did you know that in ancient Greece, Apollo was both the god of music and medicine? The Greek sage Pythagoras demonstrated that music could actually change behavior patterns and accelerate the healing process.

Music therapy has been used in hospitals, mental health centers, nursing homes and resorts for centuries. The right music can play an important role in calming the mind and breaking the stress cycle.

Why not experiment next time you're stuck in traffic? Try playing some classical music and taking some slow deep breaths to shift the energy. Music has an almost magical ability to transport us to another place.

Hope you're having a delicious summer!

Airplane Air....Ask Ms. Skin

Q. Even though my skin is more moist in the summer, I am planning some plane travel this month. My skin gets so dehydrated. Do you have any suggestions?

A. Anyone that has ever flown knows that airplane air is dehydrating and irritating to the skin. Because the air on planes is so dry, it is important to use the right moisturizer, especially one that does not contain humectants. When used in the right environment, humectants work wonderfully. But they require moisture, and if there is none in the air, they take it from the skin.

I recommend traveling with Skin Defense Cream and Mystic Hydrating Spray, a wonderful combination to quench your skin and combat dryness.

Asian Coleslaw

This is yummy and so easy, you might want to make extra, because it goes fast in my house! A nice fresh change from the ubiquitous mayo versions. Feel free to improvise ingredients!

Dressing:
2 Tbs. Sesame Oil
2 Tbs. Tamari (or Soy Sauce)
2 Tbs. Balsamic Vinegar
1 Tbs. Maple Syrup

Salad:
4 cups shredded Cabbage
1/2 cup grated Carrot
3 Scallions, finely sliced
1 pkg. Ramen Noodles
1/4 cup Dried Cranberries
toasted Sunflower Seed or Pecans

Combine the dressing ingredients and mix well.

Smash the ramen noodles into little pieces while they are inside the bag. Then combine them with the rest of the salad ingredients and toss with dressing.

This tastes best after a few hours. I like to add the nuts or seeds just before serving so they don't get soggy.
